As I entered The Legion Of Honor costume exhibit by Isabelle de Borchgrave, the woman who checked my ticket told me to remember what I was viewing was not historical costume but made of painted paper. I thought why she bothers to say that, I already know that, but I found myself walking around the exhibit completely entranced with what looked to be historical costume and had to repeatedly tell myself that everything was made from paper right down to the jewery, lace and wigs.
The Fortuny section had a Greek inspired gown in an ikat pattern that looked so much like the real thing that I walked circles around it trying to see where the lighting on it would revel that I was not. At every angle there was historical accuracy mixed with dazzling pattern and color with so much beautiful detail that it was almost overwhelming. This exhibit was so amazing. She took costume made it into sculpture and it became an art form. So well done and worth seeing I went back to see it again.
